Bride walking with horse in field

A Beautiful Bride with her Horses

In the 15 years that I’ve shot wedding photography, I’ve had the privilege of seeing couples interact with their beloved pets.  Rabbits, dogs, cats, and even horses have all played key roles in their owners’ weddings.  Over the past year and a half I had the privilege of working with Cassandra and Andrew during their amazing engagement session near the Orange Corner’s trestle bridge in the Kawartha Lakes (near Peterborough and Omemee) and then again at their wedding last summer.  In the next week or so I will be posting a full gallery from their amazing wedding, but for now here are a few photos from the shoot we did on the day after the wedding with Cassandra’s horses.  Stay tuned for more…

Venue Photography: The Farmhouse Restaurant in Barrie

As part of my half and full-day wedding packages, one of my goals is to capture the spirit of the setting where a wedding couple’s reception is held.  Often, the photography begins before the wedding day during a location scouting session and then continues on the wedding day itself, when the location is uniquely and beautifully decorated.

The purpose of this photography is to provide couples with a comprehensive set of photographs that they can use in the creation of a wedding album.  The goal of the album is to tell a visually cinematic and emotionally moving story of the wedding day.  With all of my standard packages including a copyright release, couples even have the option of doing this themselves!

Presented here are a series of a photographs from Sarah and Scott’s wedding at the very stylish and welcoming Farmhouse Restaurant in Barrie, ON.

Winter Wedding Photography at the Farmhouse in Barrie and Midhurst United Church

Sarah and Scott’s winter wedding at Midhurst United Church and The Farmhouse Restaurant in Barrie was a truly beautiful event.  Braving the cold, Sarah and Scott looked extremely stylish and in love in our wedding photography session.  It was a true pleasure working with both of them on these images as well as their engagement photos at Blue Mountain last fall.  As several members of the wedding party said, Sarah looked very much like Elsa in Frozen–my 4 year old daughter agrees!

A Fishing Engagement Session

This past summer, I had the pleasure of shooting several fishing engagement sessions.  This is the first of them that I’m posting.  If these shots speak to you, let’s talk!  You can see the first full gallery from Caity and Alex’s engagement session at Bluewater Beach here.

Winter Wedding at Cranberry Resort: Creating a Series of Artistic Looks

Jen and Mike chose Cranberry Resort in Collingwood for their winter wedding on December 27, 2014.  When you get married in December, or any month for that matter, you never know what kind of weather conditions you’ll have.  I’ve shot winter weddings in December with deep blankets of snow and I’ve also shot warm, balmy weddings at this same time.  For Jen and Mike, we had brisk winds with gorgeous deep blue storm skies in the distance.  Although it was chilly, Jen, Mike and their wedding party did an amazing job of looking stylish in the conditions.  By the time I was back up at Cranberry on December 29th for another wedding, we had a wintery blanket of snow.  You just never know!

For any wedding, I like to create artistic versions of images that match the atmosphere in the photographs.  Let’s have a look at some of the artistic looks I gave to these images.

For this portrait of the bride and groom, a contrasty and bright black and white conversion was chosen, with priority given to keeping skin tones bright and punchy.  Sometimes simplicity is the best.

For this next portrait, of which I’ll show several image variations, I started with a colour version followed by a black-and-white version with only the bouquet left in faded colour.  I then created a look called blue crush which really accentuates the blues in the stormy skies while also subduing other tones.

Another example of the blue crush look, featuring the beautiful bride and rich stormy skies behind.  My standard colour version is followed by the artistic version.

And finally, some vintage versions of images.  I hope you enjoy them!
