Stoney Lake Wedding Photography

Located in the Kawartha Lakes, Stoney Lake (also spelled Stony Lake) is one of the area’s crown jewels.  It’s a huge, meandering lake, with islands of exposed Canadian Shield, bent pines, rushing rapids at Burleigh and High Falls, a rich history local island history and tonnes of beautiful resorts and family cottages.

When Kelly and Joel decided to host their island wedding at their family cottage with the ceremony at St. Peter’s on the Rock, I was thrilled.  I grew up in the area and spent many of my summers paddling the vast waters of the lake.

With perhaps more organization and logistical planning going into this wedding than any other I’ve shot (all guests and service providers had to arrive by water taxi), we were blessed with a beautiful warm day.  Kelly and Joel are an amazing couple and it was a privilege to be part of their big day.

Shooting took place on the “main land” where the guys got ready, at the island cottage, then to St. Peter’s on the Rock for the ceremony, and then back to the island cottage for the reception.  St. Peter’s on the Rock is a small Catholic Church located on an island in Stoney Lake and is one of the most memorable ceremony locations I’ve ever been part of.
